It’s creation and publishing was an epic history with happy ending! Our goal was to create the fastest WordPress theme that WordPress ecosystem ever has, but yet powerful, scalable and extensible, and we finally made it!
We have started with empty folder without any files and have built ExS theme line by line of code. We did not use any frameworks, ready to use starter templates and other third party things because we wanted to have a full control over the theme’s behaviour, speed and performance.
We have used latest web technologies, such as HTML5 markup, CSS Grid and Flexbox, CSS variables etc. to make theme assets size as tiny as it possible but with great opportunities to build very fast and layout rich WordPress sites.
ExS theme is utilise and extends the power of new WordPress block editor – Gutenberg which generates clean and SEO friendly HTML markup and has pretty powerful rich layout blocks, such as columns, cover backgrounds, video backgrounds etc. This makes your site not only fastest with ExS WordPress theme but also most SEO friendly.
Another challenge was the theme’s review process. The main thing that we had to struggle was to create perfect site’s keyboard navigation. This is one of the important review team requirement and in the mean time – most forgotten thing for website and theme developers and creators.
But keyboard navigation is really important to make ExS WordPress theme not only the fastest and SEO friendly, but it also helps to make it 100% ‘Accessibility’ and ‘Best Practice’ ranked. This will increase your site’s SEO page rank even further:
